Welcome back, my friend! I am still obsessing and working hard over this outer space classroom decor set. There have been so many friends already enjoying the outer space theme so I am not going to stop creating until my fingers fall off. Haha!
Today I wanted to talk about word walls… I absolutely, positively did not have a word wall last year. There I said it! There was totally a designated spot for my word wall but the only time it was touched was when my students would rip off the command hooks that I planned on hanging binder rings of words on. Sooo it was a total first year teacher fail and that’s ok! Now I know this is something that I can improve on going into my second year of teaching. (Student teachers/first year teachers: reflection is how I survive and it always makes you better!)
My Word Wall Plan
Well for starters, I’m going to make sure I actually use it. Haha! But in all seriousness, because I am teaching first grade, I really have no choice when it comes to a word wall. My students are going to learning so many sight words and patterns so they are going to use this word wall a lot! (Side note: keeping track of what words students do and do not know is going to be a must so I will absolutely be using my Fry Sight Word Progress Monitoring set.)
I created two outer space classroom decor sets of word wall headers. All across education, students need to use and have access to academic language. Using these outer space themed word wall headers directs your students attention when they need to use it but it also show your administration what they are learning as well as how you fostering their language skills. This products comes with a script and cursive set so you can choose what works best for your students!
